Artist Information

We welcome all types of visual art from both aspiring and established artists.

What are the benefits to me as an artist?

Raising the profile of your work
A profile of you as an artist will be posted on the website, linked to your designs. We can also provide a link to your website if you wish, as well as a button to link your website to ours.

Income generation
Every time a card bearing one of your designs is chosen you will receive 10% of the card costs. We are committed to developing the website’s benevolent potential, and it is therefore likely that a significant income could be generated over time.

The opportunity to produce commissions
Corporate or private customers may contact individual artists to commission a design. In this way you will have the potential to generate further income. All we ask is that the commissioned design is used on the website to benefit a good cause. Commissioned designs will be stored on a separate area of the website, accessed only by the customer who commissioned the design.

Support a wide range of worthy causes
Each time a card bearing one of your designs is selected the customer’s chosen charitable cause will receive 60% of the card costs. Should you favour a particular worthy cause you can encourage friends and family to select it, thus gaining additional benefit from the process.

Participate in exhibitions
We anticipate that from time to time we will select some of our designs to be displayed in exhibitions throughout the country.

What do I need to do if I wish to participate?

If you’d like to become involved you can Apply Online. You will be asked to complete and submit an easy to use application.

Whilst our aim is to raise the profile of artists, we cannot guarantee that all designs received will be displayed on the site. Our team will select designs carefully and sensitively according to specific need.

Our sophisticated technology will track the number of times your designs are used. We will calculate the amount due to you and when the amount due exceeds £5 we will make payment quarterly or when your balance reaches £100, whichever is sooner. Payments will be made electronically, directly into your bank account.

Once your registration is accepted we will ask you to submit a profile of your work as an artist to post on the site.

If you have any questions do contact us.

Submitting Designs
We would like to receive designs in a variety of mediums including photography and animation. Our designs are displayed in themes.

Once registered and accepted as an artist you can log into your account. You will notice a new tab along the top of the screen called 'Account'. Click on this and you can choose to submit artwork and view or edit your profile, along with some other options. When writing your profile for the first time please use the 'Edit Profile' option.

If you included your website address in your registration details a link will automatically be set up to your website. If you would like to link to Benevolus.com from your website please let us know and we will be happy to supply you with a link logo.

Submitting artwork is quite straightforward – just follow the instructions. You will have the option to upload a sound file and add a caption or quote. You can also choose your preferred charity, which will become the default charity for that design. However, the customer will have the option to change this should they prefer to choose their own charity.

These facilities are all optional. You can simply upload a design if you wish. All designs will go through a moderation process. Selection will be made according to specific need at the time. You will receive an email informing you whether your designs have been made active on the site.

You may also choose to upload a sound file to go with your design, formats accepted are MP3 and WAV with a file size limit of 6MB. All sound files must be copyright and license free. Some websites that offer license free music are Shockwave Sound, Yopo.co.uk, Surfers Sound. As these are external websites which we have no control over, we take no responsibility for their content – it is up to you to check for license and copyright as well as suitability for your design.

Artwork formats
Artwork must not exceed 1 Megabyte in size and will be subject to a resizing and compression process. Artists are advised to perform optimisation themselves to ensure a desired level of quality. Artwork that is smaller than 400 Kilobytes and 500x300 pixels will not be resized or compressed.

JPEG, PNG or SWF, MP3 WAV format is supported. If you are uploading a Flash movie then please also submit a thumbnail in JPEG or PNG format which represents the movie. Other formats are not supported.

You can suggest a new category by sending an email to designs@benevolus.com.
